Shame on The Station Down on the River for Not Helping Katie Couric

It's partially your fault that Katie Couric has dropped to third place among the network anchors. At least that's what the head of CBS News claims. He claims low-rated lead-ins from local affiliates are to blame for KC's drop to the tail-bone patrol. I bet that sure makes everyone proud to know that the blame is laid where the blame belongs. If you were Numero Uno leading in to her she would be kicking rear. As it is, KC's ratings are right where Bob Shieffer left them...oh wait his numbers were actually pretty decent if I remember correctly. And besides, your numbers are pretty good leading in to her. Perhaps this was all just a clever ploy to move KC to the CBS Morning show. I wonder if those in power at CBS STILL consider the hiring of KC to be such a great move and worth every penny of that 15-million.

Couric isn't a journalist, nor is she an anchor, at least not in any sense that I understand those terms. If Les Moonves is so keen on proving that he's not a sexist, then he needs to start with his bullpen of talented female journalists, and worry about their onscreen style once he's got that part down.

By choosing Katie Couric, he's conceded to the cable channels. He's got a news presenter, not an anchor.

Isn't Ch. 3 the ratings winner at 5pm? Either the audience isn't big enough OR people are turning away to watch another newscast or something else.

I don't get home from work early enough to watch and I doubt would anyway. Katie's bias showed through on the Today show and I'm sure that hasn't changed.

Although WREG still wins the 10pm news race, WMC newscasts lead at 5pm and 6pm by a comfortable margin. And the mornings have really gotten interesting--WHBQ is number one most days.

Joe,
Do you miss doing Mid South Outdoors? You always looked like you were having so much fun.

All of the times I watched Katie on the CBS Evening News I was left asking, "But where was the NEWS?" The show has become just another 'Current Affair'! Unfortunately, this means I've pretty much stopped watching Ch 3 evening news simply to avoid having to turn the channel when KC comes on at 5:30.

PS Joe: we could tell you enjoyed doing the Outdoors show and that's partly why we enjoyed watching you. Good job.

November should be interesting. due to some bad CBS decisions and some good NBC decisions, 5 is coming back at 10 but still behind. watch for heroes to move to the 9pm spot.
